Music Program

The Bishop DuBourg High School Music Department has a long history of forming solid musicians. Performing groups at DuBourg have competed and received accolades at national competitions, including the Festival of Music in Chicago and the Heritage Festival in Nashville.

Jazz Band
The Jazz Band studies a wide variety of jazz music, from traditional big band standards, to contemporary jazz/rock. This group stresses the elements of the jazz style and improvisation. Other opportunities available to the Jazz Band are the District and State Honor Jazz Band.


Mixed Chorus
The Mixed Chorus studies a wide variety of music, from classical sacred and secular repertoire to modern pop arrangements, and participates in a number of public performances, including festivals and competitions. Mixed Chorus members are eligible to participate in the All-District and All-State Honor Choir, as well as the Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.


Beginning Piano, Guitar, or Drums
These courses is designed for students who demonstrate an interest in learning to play the piano, guitar, or drums. Prior experience is not required. Students will learn to read and perform chordal accompaniments to popular songs.


Introduction to Band
This course is designed for students who demonstrate an interest in learning to play a new instrument, or
who have some experience but would like to be qualified for jazz or pep band. Instruments taught includes
all brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments plus guitar and keyboard. Focus will be on
reading, scales, and basic technique. Some instruments may be available for loan from DB.


Digital Music Production
This is an elective course open to all students. Experience in instrumental or vocal music is recommended but not required. Student will learn digital recording, mixing, and audio production.


Cavalier Pep Band
This ensemble is an extra-curricular group that rehearses periodically throughout the school year in preparation for performances at home football and basketball games. This group stresses elements of musical performance and understanding while having a lot of fun! The Cavalier Pep Band performs arrangements of popular hit songs of yesterday and today.
