This morning at 10:00am, more than 100 students and staff opted to participate in the #NationalSchoolWalkout in support of and in solidarity with the Stoneman Douglas High School victims, survivors, and community. Our participation began with a brief, student-led prayer service, where we remembered the victims and discussed school safety. Each victim's name was read aloud, and for the 17 minutes that followed, we walked in remembrance and honor of those 17 lives lost one month ago.
As an extension of our Pro Life mission as a Catholic High School, this gesture was not made in protest or support of any political stance, but rather meant to emphasize that every life is sacred in the eyes of God, and the movement for nonviolence in our communities is paramount. DB walked today in a place of prayerful reflection, dignity and respect, with the unified call for an end to all violence - especially in our schools.
