In Memory of Jerry Bernds, longtime DB teacher and supporter

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our former teacher and friend Jerry Bernds. During his 42 years at Bishop DuBourg, Jerry taught English and speech, started the first radio/television class (now DBC Live), and headed the Gala Auction for several years, doing all with tireless energy and enthusiasm. He was still an active member of the Bishop DuBourg School Advisory Board and was a lifelong fierce and vocal supporter of DB.

Jerry’s family was part of the larger Bishop DuBourg family, too. His wife, Rita (Bober) Bernds, taught math at DB for many years. Rita’s mother, Arlene, worked as a secretary in the DB main office. Jerry and Rita’s children are all alumna of Bishop DuBourg: Christine ’99, Amy ’01, and Melanie ’04.

A wake will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, at Kutis Funeral Home in Affton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 19, at Seven Holy Founders parish.

Our prayers are with the Bernds family.
