Bishop DuBourg senior Madison Galczynski has been selected to play for the U.S. softball team in the American Based Sports Abroad (ABSA) Down Under Classic this summer in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia.
“The second I got the [acceptance] email, I felt very proud of myself,” Madison said. “I did not think this could happen to me! Out of all the amazing softball players in the country, they picked me.”
Madison will travel to Australia with the U.S. team, made up of elite high school athletes from around the country, from July 19-29 and have the chance to compete in several games against teams from other countries. Members of the team must receive an invitation to try out.
Madison has been a vital part of the Bishop DuBourg softball team throughout her four years. A center fielder, shortstop and catcher, she was named to the first team, all-district in her sophomore, junior and senior years, and first team, all-conference in her sophomore and senior years. In 2019, she helped lead the Cavaliers to a district title.
“Maddi has been a strong presence on our team,” said Bishop DuBourg softball coach Kayla Polette. “She has shown leadership, heart, passion and a mature understanding of the game. She knows the game very well and sets a great example for the team.”
