The Bishop DuBourg High School Music Department has a longstanding reputation as one of the strongest Catholic high school music programs in the state of Missouri. Performing groups at DuBourg have competed and received accolades at national competitions, including the Festival of Music in Chicago and the Heritage Festival in Nashville.

This is a course comprised of the most advanced instrumental musicians at Bishop DuBourg. This group studies and performs a wide variety of music, while stressing the elements of musical performance and understanding. Other opportunities available to the Concert Band members are the District and State Honor Concert Band and the Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.
This course meets daily and is open to any Concert Band member. The Jazz Ensemble studies a wide variety of jazz music, from traditional big band standards, to contemporary jazz/rock. This group stresses the elements of the jazz style and improvisation. Other opportunities available to the Jazz Ensemble are the District and State Honor Jazz Band.
This is a course comprised of the most advanced vocal musicians at Bishop DuBourg. This group studies and performs a wide variety of music, while stressing the elements of musical performance and understanding. Other opportunities available to the Mixed Chorus members are the District and State Honor Choirs and the Solo and Small Ensemble Festival.
Cavalier Pep Band
This ensemble is an extra-curricular group that rehearses periodically throughout the school year in preparation for performances at home football and basketball games. This group stresses elements of musical performance and understanding while having a lot of fun! The Cavalier Pep Band performs arrangments of popular hit songs of yestereday and today.
In addition to performing ensembles, the following courses are offered to suit the needs and interests of every student:
This course is designed especially for students who have no previous playing experience. Basic musical concepts such as melody, harmony, notation, rhythm, tempo and dynamics are covered. Students also learn lead guitar techniques and chord accompaniments.
Beginning Guitar II
This course is designed for students with some skill playing the guitar. Students will further their knowledge of reading notes, playing chords, improvising, and working as an ensemble.
This course is open for students with little or no experience in playing the piano who demonstrate an interest in learning about music through the keyboard. Basic musical concepts such as melody, harmony, notation, rhythm, tempo and dynamics are covered.
This course is designed for beginning band students. This course further develops the students skills on a specific instrument while stressing the elements of musical performance and understanding.
This course is aimed at introducing students to music in the world around them. It will expose students to the elements of music through listening, analysis, and the study of form, style and history. We will also study how music expresses self-understanding, cultural environment and aesthetic values by examining music from the past and present.
