The goal of the rally was to stir into flame the faith of several area grade school students who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. 110 seventh and eighth grade students from the following schools participated in the Rally: Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Gabriel the Archangel, St. James the Greater, St. Louis the King and the South City Deanery Parish School of Religion.
Bishop DuBourg students helped with the Rally in a variety of roles: speaking to the Confirmation
candidates, leading small group discussions and helping during the day and several more students assisted through music and song, serving at Mass and proclaiming the Word.
The grade school students heared several different talks, given by both adults and Bishop DuBourg students: theology of Confirmation, witnesses speaking about their Confirmation experience, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, etiquette and moral choices in social media, and living out one’s faith in everyday life.
After each talk, the Confirmation candidates discussed some questions based on the talks. The
Confirmation Rally will culminate with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 1:15 p.m., with Bishop Rice presiding.
The Confirmation Rally was funded by the Koch Foundation of Gainesville, Florida; the foundation
specializes in Catholic evangelization. Locally Bishop DuBourg High School, the Incarnate Word
Foundation, and the Catholic Education Office provided sponsorship for the event.
The Bishop DuBourg community views this Rally as an opportunity for our students to present and live our motto: “Faith in Christ . . . Service to Others.”
