A senior, Stege is the first DuBourg male tennis player to qualify for the state tournament, which will be played Friday and Saturday in Springfield. He defeated University City’s Daniel Pomerantz 6-1, 6-1 in the sectional. Stege, who is right-handed and has played with a broken left wrist for more than half the season, was coming off a win by default over St. Mary’s Jacob Kamper in the district championship match. Stege also had a signature win over state-bound Michael Hawkins of Festus during the regular season. Stege is 17-2 in singles and 12-3 in doubles this season and plans to attend Murray State University and play club tennis.
