Visual Arts
Within the Art Department of the Visual and Performing Arts there are courses available for the novice student, the student who wants to improve his or her art skills, and the serious art student. Courses include year classes of Art I, II, III, and IV and semester classes of Ceramics I and II, 3-Dimensional Art, Housing/ Interior Design, and Graphic Design/ Illustration. All of the semester classes require one year of Art I first whereas the year Art classes are consecutive type classes. The Art Department also has an Art Club and a National Art Honor Society that meets after school where art community projects are created around the school area.
Theatre
The Theatre Program is part of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts here at Bishop DuBourg. Our theatre program offers a curriculum of Intro to Theatre--2 semester courses--for freshmen and sophomores. Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors are Acting and Stagecrafts, both of which can be taken for 2 years.
In the extra-curricular area, Bishop DuBourg presents its Guild Players theatre production group. The Guild has long produced exceedingly high-quality theatre productions, 121 shows in 36 years. These shows are open to all students based simply on their desire to be part of a special group, their abilities, and their willingness to work. The shows offer incredible opportunity to all students to discover or stretch their God-given talents and to work with other students and teachers in a manner that creates a family home within the larger family that is Bishop DuBourg. We are very proud of our Guild Players and were wonderfully excited when the St. Louis Cappies, a chapter of a national high school critics program, awarded our production of Much Ado About Nothing their award as Best Play of the Year and best actor/actress awards to four of our students in four different catagories. It is always great to have others recognize the quality we all work for here within the school.
Music
Music Department Scholarship
Each year, the Music Department of Bishop DuBourg High School holds scholarship auditions for incoming music students. The scholarship is designed to help quality young musicians reduce the cost of tuition for their freshmen year. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of musical ability. Students are asked to present a letter of recommendation from their grade school band or vocal teacher, or ask them to send a letter directly to Bishop DuBourg. Interested students may contact Mr. Ken Lederle at Bishop DuBourg High School. Audition times and other information will be available on Freshmen Registration Night .
